True classic developed and published by Mission Studios in 1997 for PC DOS.

This is JetFighter 3 Classic release from 1999, the final release that includes the original product, the Enhanced Campaign CD, plus a mission editor, new missions and additional scenery along with 3dfx support.

The JetFighter series began basically on Amiga 500 in 1988 with F/A-18 Interceptor coded by Robert Dinnerman. There were only a handful of missions avaialble and the action took place in near future of 1994 in San Francisco Bay area. You could fly F/A-18 Hornet and F-16 Falcon.

The PC "port" released the same year was titled Jet Fighter, had additional F-14 added to the aircraft roster, had much more missions, capability to attack ground targets with bombs and streached the terrain all the way south up to Los Angeles area. It was superior to the Amiga version in every way except the audio design. While the PC offered only the PC Speaker with no music, the Amiga version and it's Paula sound chip makes the original sound good even today.

Jet Figher 2 released in 1990 offered improved VGA 256-color graphics and Adlib sound which still coudn't compete with Amiga 500 rendition. It added advanced aircraft participating in ATF programme - F-23 Black Widow with some new kinetic weapon. There was also mission disk titled Operation Lightning Storm which added F-22 Lightning II (before it got Raptor designation), 125 new missions, friendly AWACS aircraft, enemy helo gunships and SCUD missiles, and intelligent wingmen.

Jet Fighter 3 improved on all fronts. The graphics engine was new. World was rendered in stunning detail. You could even see Earth curvature from high altitude. The only letdown was the flight model which wasn't big improvement. The dogfights still felt quirky. But overall immersion was fenomenal with the carrier which you could explore. You could visit the library where you would learn on current world events from newspaper, or read on aircraft depicted in game. You could go to your cabin, check your E-mail or even see what's for dinner in the mess. This was the peak of the immersion in flight sims.
