F/A-18 Interceptor - Qualifications and Visual Confirmation Mission (Amiga 500)
The game that sparked my interest in flight simulations almost 30 yeats ago!
Developed by Intellisoft and published by Electronic Arts in 1988 for Amiga 500.
Playing it now shows how much the industry progressed. We take fluid gameplay, sophisticated flight modelling and real-life graphics for granted. Back then this here was jaw dropping. With frames per second dipping occasionally to maybe 3 FPS, blocky flat shaded graphics, still awesome sound! It's still a true classic and worth playing even today.
Note that I emulated Amiga 500 in WinUAE, you could emulate faster model (like A1200) to get more fluid gameplay. With anything faster (A3000/4000) the game will run great, but you will no longer be able to read the briefings (the awesome "typing" text will be just too fast).
Fun fact: The title music played only if you had expanded the Amiga 500 onboard RAM from 512kB to full 1MB. When I first heard that awesome tune I tought instanlty of Top Gun Opening Theme, it has that vibe to it doesn't it?
