Jon Stewart wasn't the first option for 'The Daily Show'?
The Daily Show has a new host, and it is Jon Stewart. However, if all had gone smoothly, Hasan Minhaj would have taken his seat.
According to reports, the Netflix Patriot Act star was almost chosen for the main role; but, The New Yorker's negative piece threw a wrench in the works.
Multiple insiders told The Hollywood Reporter that the 38-year-old was on the verge of succeeding former host Trevor Noah by late July.
However, at the time, the US magazine published an explosive piece alleging Hasan had overstated and occasionally made up personal parts of his stand-up routine.
In response, the comedian described the piece as "needlessly misleading." However, opinions toward him shifted against him, and the search for the host resumed.
In recognition of Jon's arrival, Showtime CEO Chris McCarthy stated, "Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central's The Daily Show to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter election season."
