Journey Speedrun Any% NG+ in 42:33
10No commentary, this is simply the raw file I recorded of my attempt. Mostly same notes as my 44 minute one. I'm working on improving this still but some people over on SDA were wanting to see it so uploading this run ^_^.
Q&A:
Why NG+ (New Game Plus)?
-NG+ is done by doing a run and then immediately after (IE: Not quitting the game after) doing another one. This skips a minute long intro. Arguably also unlocks the white cloak, but dunno.
White Cloak Hopping?
-White Cloak Hopping is basically holding forward while pressing down the X button. The White Cloak features an auto-regen scarf, and so when you land while doing the hop you recover just enough to propel yourself forward.
Any%?
-I skip a bunch of the symbols and all of the glyphs. I only get them if they aren't out of the way. In the slide level I attempt to get the third one in this run but completely fly over it. I try and jump back to it and ultimately ended up losing a bit of time to this. If/when I do this again (would like to do sub-44 which I highly believe is possible), I'll just skip it and focus on the actual slide.
Why Journey?
-It is an absolutely GORGEOUS game that anyone with a PS3 needs to go play now. One thing I love about this speed run (although it makes the timing annoying since they are the same length as some of the levels) is that I still get to see the awesome cutscenes :D
If I got a really good time, would I submit it somewhere?
-Only if I got a better capture software. What I have now isn't exactly optimal for recording speedruns (and having them being the wanted quality).
When do you start/stop the timer, since it isn't shown here?
-Start: Soon as I hit new game, though personal choice to hit it here not sure if that'd be "official" timing
-End: Soon as I step over the "line" at the mountain into the white abyss (You'll notice I accidentally stopped a half step too early, whoops!)
Specific Level Notes:
Intro:
-Since this is NG+ I skip the minute long intro scene (and just have a 15ish second one). Switch to cloak and then grab the two symbols, though debating on skipping one of them, but I dunno.
Bridge:
-If I can actually do this right it's fairly straightforward.
Desert:
-Can still be improved just by doing it a lot cleaner.
Slide:
-Still need to do some timing tests here but got this level mostly figured out.
Dragon:
-Working on trying to consistently skip that first patroller, it's definitely possible I just haven't done it outside of practice (what? XD).
Tower:
-Still working on improving this level and am still testing what can be skipped here. Can definitely be improved
Snow:
-The level of white cloak hopping and skiing. Need to figure out timing on the first wind part to see if that can be any faster. Also the dragon section is annoying but is pretty easy to wall hug while hopping.
