[Jurassic Park III Arcade] Gameplay Demonstration (Gameworks, Tempe, Arizona)
Jurassic Park III is a light gun arcade game based on the 2001 movie of the same name. Developed by Konami and released in 2001, Jurassic Park III uses the same cabinet and motion sensor technology as Police 911, requiring players to dodge the oncoming dinosaur attacks. Alternatively, the standard cabinet provided a left and right button to perform evasive maneuvers. It was preceded by The Lost World: Jurassic Park in 1997, also a light gun game, but from Sega.
In the game, the player must kill dinosaurs by aiming at them and shooting them with the light gun. The player is given 8 bullets to shoot and must reload by shooting outside of the screen every time they use all 8 bullets. A heath bar is shown which gets smaller and smaller as the player receives damage. If the bar is gone, the game is over unless the player puts in more coins and hits the "start" or "continue" button. After a boss is killed, the player is sometimes given more health if he or she did well killing the boss (or at random points you might get more health too). There are also two left and right arrow buttons on the dash of the console, which allowing players to "Run away" from the dinosaur(s) to avoid taking damage during boss battles.
Jurassic Park III is a 2001 American science fiction adventure film and the third of the Jurassic Park franchise. It is the only film in the series that was neither directed by Steven Spielberg nor based on a book by Michael Crichton (though numerous scenes in the film were taken from Crichton's novels Jurassic Park and The Lost World). The film takes place on Isla Sorna, the island from the second film, after a divorced couple tricks Dr. Alan Grant into helping them find their son.
After the success of Spielberg's Jurassic Park, Joe Johnston expressed interest in directing a sequel, a film adaptation of The Lost World. Spielberg, when informed of this, allowed Johnston instead to direct the third film in the series, if there were to be one. Production of Jurassic Park III began on August 30, 2000. Upon its release, the film received mixed to negative reviews, with many stating that despite the visual effects and action scenes the film was inferior and unoriginal. Jurassic Park III grossed $368 million worldwide.
