Finally some more Kapustin! Check out my other videos of his music if you want to know what this composer is about.
This sonata is in 3 movements.
First is an Allegro ma non troppo which is very joyous in a simple way, and nostalgic at times (especially in the second theme). Kapustin also can't prevent himself from entering "crazy Kapustin mode" (copyright Sorcerer88) where the right hand starts chaining 16ths notes in crazy uncomfortable patterns and the left hands also does complicated things (often biggish jumps).
Then comes the Grave, very ballad-esque and with _delicious_ harmonies all the way through. This one is an exercise in making the right notes sound loud and for a long time.
The last movement is an extremely fast Vivace where tons of different jazz styles alternate in very quick fashion. Can you hear the Mission Impossible theme? ;)
