This scenario, called Kawaguchi's Gamble, portrays one of these first battles, during the battle for Guadalcanal, more specifically, on September 13, 1942, where a mixed battalion composed of Raiders and Paramarines of the United States Marine Corps, under the command of Colonel Merrit Edson were ordered to occupy a "quiet" area, a ridge with line of sight over the important airfield called Henderson Airfield.
Both the Raiders and the Paramarines were depleted due to previous battles, mainly the Paramarines with the very difficult battle to conquer the islands of Gavutu-Tanambogo, and were in this area, considered "safe" for rest and reorganization.
The Japanese, however, were not inactive, and were already preparing to retake the areas lost until now and eventually retake the important Henderson Airfield, key to maintaining control of Guadalcanal.
