The Kellie Castle or Kellas House was built in 1905 by a leading Scottish rubber farmer named William Kellie Smith . The three-storey building was built according to the design of a Moghul palace in the city of Agra , India . The builders of the building were specially brought from Madras .

William Kellie Smith is from a village in Scotland known as Kellas. In 1890, at age 20, Smith arrived before Malaya build. In Malaya, he met a landowner named Alma Baker, who had won concessions from the state government to explore 360 hectares of forest in Perak. With the huge profit made from his joint venture ("business venture") with Alma Baker, Smith began to grow rubber trees and venture into the tin mining industry . In the meantime, he became the owner of Kinta Kellas and Kinta Kellas Tin Dredging Company.

Later he returned home to marry his beloved Scotland, Agnes, and his wife were brought to Malaya in 1903. The following year, the couple was blessed with a daughter they named Helen. For many years after that, Agnes tried to get pregnant, but failed. William Smith are expecting a son as heir to take over the government in the Malay Archipelago. Years later, Agnes finally gave birth to a son named Anthony, in 1915. The birth of his son was the beginning of a greater fortune for William Smith. To celebrate Anthony's birth, William Smith has decided to expand his home. Smith initiated plans for a large palace reserve that was planned to be known as the Kellas House (Kellas House ), in conjunction with his home in Scotland.

The building has 14 rooms, a cellar and a secret tunnel is also equipped with the first lift built Malaya . On the second floor will be a tennis court with cement.

News of the building was published in the London Financer newspaper on September 15, 1911. The newspaper said the Kellas House was the most distinctive building in the entire Far East , in terms of shape or size.

The building was unable to be completed after Kellie Smith died in Port Lisbon , Portugal to take a lift booked on December 11, 1926. The permanent 'under construction' has attracted visitors to Stone Elephants because of its uniqueness.
