KHBBS No Commands (CM) - Ventus Part 1: Ventus fights a tree and a house cat, then plays Monopoly
The tree is a weirdly decent boss that I actually kind of like, he's probably better than most your average world bosses in KH2, or at least on par with them. He's not like insanely good or anything like that, but he's better than most throw away bosses in this game and probably better than most KH3D bosses too. Tbh BBS has some genuinely decent early game bosses, it's mostly the late/post game that goes to total whackass nonsense.
Lucifer (the cat) is actually a really whack ass boss. Basically, if you use his rodeo reaction command he's a joke, just bonk him on the nose after a belly flop and then smash his HP into nothing, maybe do it second time if needed, easy win. But if you actually try to fight him, he has this weird 360 spin scratch revenge attack that triggers basically entirely randomly when you're attacking him and as far as I can tell there's no way to predict, react, or otherwise negate that attack so unless you just cheese him with his rodeo gimmick, it's gonna be a messy fight. Also his whole body is a hitbox at weird times like when he just decides not to do a belly flop and just hops down off the furniture and when he's walking around but only sometimes. He's weird, you could do him flawless no rodeo/commands if you wanted by only attacking him during the belly flop since that triggers his special stagger for the rodeo thus preventing revenge, but that would take forever. There's probably other times you can attack him that he's busy and cant retaliate, but that's the one I know for sure works everytime. Anyways, he's not a fun fight, he's pretty basic. He's not hard, he's just jank and weirdly designed. Cute gimmick though, the way he jumps around on furniture like a cat and you can ride him around like some looney tunes nonsense. If you had counter rush for this fight it might be more consistent.
Maleficent is another oddly decent fight. Her minion summon is awful, but everything else is pretty decent. I don't use her fairy gimmick since it trivializes things. I finally found a good and consistent way to dodge her galaxy spiral gurren lagann bullshit move without just getting level 4 dodge roll early and spamming infinite i-frames. You go to the stairs and hide behind that pillar next to them and then drop down as she comes up and then as she comes down you go back up the stairs, basically kiting her around the pillar using it and the elevation difference to prevent her from getting you. It seems pretty consistent and it's a lot cooler and more interesting than the typical "just use command board to get dodge roll to level 4 early and spam it" solution I normally see to that attack. I mean you can also try putting your back to a wall and blocking it or running in circles and dodging through it each time she charges, but neither of those work with any consistency since the clipping on that move is ridiculous.
And then command boards again because it's the only way to get abilities without equipping commands. Fun fun fun.
