Short Note on kidney Structure & Function:
The kidney is a bean-shaped organ that filters blood to remove waste and excess fluids, forming urine. Each kidney has an outer cortex and an inner medulla. Nephrons, the functional units of the kidney, are present in large numbers. Each nephron consists of a glomerulus and a tubule. Blood is filtered in the glomerulus, and essential nutrients are reabsorbed in the tubule. The filtered waste forms urine, which collects in the renal pelvis and drains into the ureter, leading to the bladder. The kidney also regulates electrolyte balance, blood pressure, and red blood cell production through hormones like renin and erythropoietin, maintaining overall homeostasis.
