King of the Monsters - Console Fighting Games of 1993 #shorts #gaming
King of the Monsters is a 2D kaiju-themed fighting/wrestling game developed by SNK and originally released in arcades in 1991. It was later ported to the SNES in 1992 and the Sega Genesis in 1993 by Takara. Players choose from a roster of giant monsters—such as Geon (a Godzilla-like dinosaur), Astro Guy (an Ultraman-style hero), Rocky (a Moai golem), and Beetle Mania (a giant beetle)—and battle across destructible cityscapes. The Genesis version features four playable monsters and three fictional cities: Mega Port, Dragon City, and Castle City.
Matches are won by pinning opponents or knocking them out, and players can use environmental objects like buildings and boats as weapons. With its blend of wrestling mechanics, monster mayhem, and city-smashing chaos, King of the Monsters became a cult favorite and a foundational title in SNK’s early fighting game catalogue. #gamingshorts #videogames #fightinggames #video #games #short #shortvideo #genesis #nostalgia #retrogaming #kingofthemonsters #kaiju
