A remaster of the 1999 cult classic shooter Kingpin: Life of Crime, Kingpin: Reloaded features enhanced graphics, rebalanced gameplay, and more. Unfortunately it's also an absolute mess, with loads of bugs and performance issues at launch.

Despite its disastrous launch, there are a few things to like about the remaster. The new textures are mostly good, the radial menu for weapons and conversations is a nice addition, and I also like how items now pop out of dead enemies rather than needing to be acquired by "searching" their bodies each and every time.

There's no denying the game is chock full of issues that weren't present in the original, though. The AI seems to be considerably worse, the player's weapon is almost completely cropped out (especially the pistol), movement often feels jittery, the lens flare effect is way overdone, some cutscenes don't appear correctly (like the motorcycle ride shown at the end of this video), shadows and water reflections are borderline broken... the list goes on and on.

Thankfully the developers are listening to the community and a patch was released shortly after I recorded this video that toned down the ridiculous lens flare effect and made a bunch of other improvements, but still yet: Kingpin: Reloaded is an immensely disappointing remaster that was clearly shoved out well before it was ready, even despite being in development for so long.

If you would like to join me in my suffering by playing this dreadful remaster for yourself, it's now available on Steam at the following link:

Oh, and did I mention that the remaster was supposed to have included a copy of the original Kingpin: Life of Crime, but no one (including yours truly) actually received it upon purchasing the game? You can't even make this stuff up. The developers are supposedly looking into that, too, but if that isn't a telltale sign of a horribly mismanaged product, I don't know what is.
