Developed and published by FromSoftware for the Playstation 2 in 2001, and published by Agetec in North America in 2002 and Metro3D in Europe in 2003, "King's Field IV", also known with the subtitle "The Ancient City" in North America, is the forth entry into the King's Field series.

The kingdom of Heladin has fallen under a curse. The king was gifted a strange idol and ever since displaying it in his court himself and his kingdom has been slowly withering away. His best swordsman, Septiego, took with him a battalion of troops to return the idol to the Holy Lands, now known as the Land of Disaster, however contact with them has been lost.

We play as Prince Devian. A strange cloaked being arrived at our doorstep, strange idol in hand. We must take the idol and return it to where it came from in hope that it will reverse the effects on the kingdom of Heladin and its king.
