Annie May Month continues as we move on from Lupin to something a little more obscure. Kishin Douji Zenki was a manga and anime that ran in the mid 90s. Long ago a great bodhisattva Ozunu Enno used demon gods to fight off the demon goddess Karuma. One of the demons, Zenki, was sealed in a pillar but is now awakened by Chiaki, the direct descendant of Ozunu. Zenki however lacks his full power and is stuck in the body of a demon child. Chiaki has a bracelet that allows Zenki to return to his true power, and uses this to keep Zenki under control and to help her fight against the seeds of Karuma.

It must of been decently popular series as it was able to spawn 5 games, 3 of which are on the Super Famicom. Battle Raiden is the first and its your typical anime licensed side scroller. What makes it different is that when Zenki is in his powered form he gets access to quite a few new moves. The sprites are art are very well done in this, and while I like the music I can't help but feel I've heard some of it somewhere before. The game's levels are pretty small but to make up for it they require some forced backtracking. This is the only snes Zenki game to get a fan translation and its a brisk playthrough so I recommend it.
