Klonoa - Door to Phantomile: Part 1
6I'm using a new program to make these videos now. Hopefully the framerate should be a bit better but I'm not so sure on the quality. Lemme know what you guys think and I'll tinker around with some more junk.
Anyway, Klonoa is a fantastic but rare gem for the PSX. If you like platform games, then this one's definitely worth a shot. Unfortunately the game didn't sell very well outside of Japan despite pretty great reviews, so it's kind of tough to find. There is a remake for the Wii with improved graphics, added challenges and some other additional features.
Klonoa's an interesting game that uses 2 1/2 D gameplay to guide you through levels. It's an interesting idea that Klonoa was one of the first (if not the first) games to use. Since the levels are in 3D, level design isn't limited by trying to fit everything into two dimensions, even though gameplay is limited to left/right movement. This allows for some very interesting level arrangements that just wouldn't be possible strictly with a 2D game. On top of that Klonoa uses his enemies as projectiles or to double jump, meaning you have to think about how you use the monsters around you instead of simply destroying them like most other platformers.
