We use special instrument for measuring the temperature. All such instruments and devices are knonwn as thermometeres. We find the many physical properties (like change in thermal expansion, pressure, volume) of different materials, change with temperature in a regular and systematic manner. We can therefore use theese properties as a way of measuring temperature. THe simplest thermomerter, with which we all are familiar is the mercury in glass thermometer. The difference in the temperature of the two fixed reference points is called the range of the thermometer . Two scales that have been in common use, are the farenheit and the Celsius scales.
