There's verr obvious mistakes here and there, but on the whole I'm happy enough with this to upload this and start from here. This is pretty silly because the Laika demo MIGHT be coming down later today, since it's part of Steam Next Fest and that festival is over as of today? Developers differ on how they handle that. And this is speedrunning a demo and not the full game. But. What can I say. I fell in love with the demo.

There's a lot of micro movements and adjustments and randomness that make running this really funny. Somewhat frustrating too, what worked before won't work consistently because you were going slightly faster, but really fun. The speedboost you get from pulling on the gas over and over is VERY fun as a speedrun tool, my favorite part of speedrunning this honestly.

People might have questions about using both gamepad and keyboard & mouse for different sections. Mostly it's just that mouse aim is very precise, so for bosses with health bars that seems kind of ideal. Really I think one might be best off JUST using keyboard & mouse on this game, but I'm too used to how my pad feels now to quite 100% switch. I also think it's just funny to use both in a speedrun.

There's some strategy to be worked out for sure from here. I friggin' FORGOT how to start the Birds In The Trees Quest and having that active would save a boatload of time from eliminating that one bird squad at the end. You can save time by no-deathing it for sure, it's just that liiittle changes in speed can completely change what you have to do moment to moment. There's definitely a constant danger of going too fast and making the birds react in a different way that will kill you, or missing a jump that would be easy at normal speed. Lots of micro optimizations.

But on the whole I like the general route and strategy I've decided on for now. And I hope the speedrun is fun and funny to watch, there's definitely a fair amount of tech I found on my own.

You might notice half the speedrun is taken up by the unskippable cutscene. I indeed have not figured out a way to skip that unskippable cutscene, or make it go faster at all. (It doesn't seem bound to the dialog speed, so even fastly skipping the dialog won't improve time)

But there is a funny skip at the end of the unskippable cutscene anyway. The way the game loads in levels you're actionable before you're visible. Which means the speech from The Elder is skipped if you just head left behind the cutscene before it.

You can 1 cycle the 2nd boss, but it's very dangerous and I haven't at all found out how to make it consistent after many attempts TO make it consistent. 1st boss can be 2 cycled, pretty sure you can't do it faster.

A lot of the early strategy is just making sure you're not in the air for very long, going off ramps and getting major air time. That's very fun casually but for a speedrun it's faster to be on the ground as much as possible. It seems like to me anyway, I haven't measured anything and just gone with my gut on that. Going downhill is far preferable to going uphill when possible, and going downhill instead of getting airtime is also far preferable. Uphill can be made decently fast with the speedboosts anyway though.
