"Lamborghini's first supercar that brought fame to the company."

The Automobili Lamborghini was born in 1963. After creating the 350GT and 400GT, they announced the TP400 in its bare chassis form at the Torino Motor Show of 1965. In the Geneva Motor Show of the following year they announced the Miura P400, donning the beautiful body designed by Marcello Gandini who was then the chief designer of Bertone.

The Miura took on a midship layout, mounting a 3929 cc V12 engine behind the rear bulkhead. This was a landmark model for Lamborghini, their first supercar producing 345 HP and 271.2 ft-lb. It immediately drove the budding name of Lamborghini directly into the limelight. And there were many incredible people involved in its development. The chassis was designed by Gian Paolo Dallara, who would later establish Dallara Automobili, now one of the most famous racing constructors in the world. The genius engineer Paolo Stanzani who would later develop the Countach was also involved in its development.

It is said that there were 3 prototypes built of the Miura P400 from its announcement at the Geneva show until the start of full production, and the initial prototype apparently did not have the characteristic louver above the rear cowling. However these prototypes were modified to production specs later, and delivered to the market as a standard Miura P400. The Miura later progressed into the S and SV models with engine power upgrades, and production continued to 1973. There are also a few SVJ models in existence, which were created in the image of the legendary Jota.
