This is a quick video to demonstrate what happens when you complete the story campaign for Langrisser I & II / Langrisser 1 and 2 Remake. Basically, you'll get a save after completion, but you'll have to start back up from the very start. You get to keep your gold, exp, items, etc. However, you don't necessarily keep your characters. When you do get far enough in the story to unlock certain characters, they will be at the same level as you left them. For example, unlocking Narm early on she was the same level as when I had her in the last ending mission. The characters keep their CP / class / etc.

The three options for New Game+ are:
1.) Play with saved items, stats, and gold
You basically can just repeat the story with no additional challenge.
2.) Play challenge mode without saved items, stats, and gold.
Arguably the most difficult options since you don't keep your stuff
3.) Play challenge mode with saved items, stats, and gold
Good balance between option 1 and 2. Apparently challenge mode also gets harder the more times you complete the game. I'm leaning towards option 3, but I am concerned since some characters didn't level up as well as others in my first playthrough. I'm not sure if they'd be useful given that I only had a few strong characters. Which one are you going to choose?
