Last of Us Part 2/ Blind Play through/ NO COMMENTARY/ Part 1
1I finally decided to start Last of Us Part 2 after it rotting in my game library for over a year. Last of us was one of those games that stuck with you and now with Season 2 of the show starting production I figure I play the source material! All of this is a blind play through with no commentary due to personal setup and my living condition. This will be streamed on my Twitch!
My Summery and Thoughts:
My thoughts so far, the story telling, visuals and characters do not miss a beat. Joel showing his guilt of lying too Ellie in the form of confession with Tommy. Seeing if telling the truth will some how free him of what he did to save Ellie. The time skip to help set up Ellie as the main character, jumping into the world of drama even in these trying times of infected. Boys and girls, he said, she said, pervs and protective fathers all these issues racing through the tutorial with world building before we head out on our first mission. To check surrounding areas of infected from the Settlement of Jackson.
The exploration and level design for a harsh Rocky Mountaintop hits on so many levels. I feel I'm on that mountaintop. I feel the exploration in my blood as I check every drawer, closet and body for loot and supplies to enhance my chances at survival. Rewards for paying attention to your surroundings continues to help build the world. Like finding a safe combination by finding the month and year of a dog winning employee of the month...yes that was a thing highlighted in the VOD. Meeting new characters like Dina and Jessie in the opening scenes is a breath of fresh air from it just being Joel and Ellie.
Then suddenly we are transfer into another character, Abby. Who goes on a hike with her ex lover to have them looking over Jackson. Interested in finding someone who is not named. Seemingly both parties having different approaches how to get there the man heads back to their outpost, while Abby moves forward to get answers! While on our hike we run into infected! The chase scenes were terrifying as I felt the pressure of being caught would be the end of me. Causing a few deaths in the run. We escaped and jump back into Ellie where we have to clear out a town overrun with Infected in a super market. Where we see the return of....CLICKERS! Oh boy my favorite....
Clearing the town and out running a blizzard into an abandon library where we find out was a weed den for a side character. Watching Ellie and Dina struggle to open up a mason jar with joints in, they part take in some 420 activities and then part take in another NSFW activity. Oh my oh my shield your eyes! Think of the children... It's 2024 guys. It's okay.
Jumping back to Abby where we are in another Crash Bandicoot level where we run, jump, scream and pee ourselves until an Infected crashes through a fence and tackles Abbey. All seems lost until Joel and Tommy jump in to save us. We do a bit more running until we get to a room that has a keep killing till the NPC finishes the task sort of objective. We get succeed after another CLICKER death! We run away on horses to which Abby offers shelter to Joel and Tommy from the horde.
Cut to them arriving at the outpost it seems everything was finally going to calm down, well...well not even a second. Tommy and Joel introduce themselves and the group gets quiet. Joel makes a comment about them already knowing him and it cuts to Abby with a shotgun and SHOOTS Joel in the knee, blowing off his knee cap. Instant shock hitting me in the spine. They knock Tommy out hold Joel up on a wall. Abby does the ominous speech about Joel wronging her, playing a game of guess who I am. She then pulls out a nearby golf club and swung at Joel's head!
We come back to Ellie who was sent to check Joel's last whereabouts. She find the house they are held up in and after some exploring of the house we find the scene. Joel bloodied and laying down, gripping on to what little life he can grasp. Ellie shocked tries to barged in, but is easily overwhelmed. She tries to pry free, begging Joel to get up, threatening to kill anybody that hurts him. Abby looks down onto Joel and takes one final swing at Joel's head. I'm horrified, my girlfriend is shocked. I'm just left to grief over this character that we spent countless hours as. They knock out Ellie and fast forward to the aftermath. Planning our revenge path. WLF is our enemy now! We end the session with us at Joel's grave wanting to say goodbye, but also thank you!
Quick thoughts from me. I heard all the jokes about golf clubs and Joel from when the game came out but I was not envisioning that. I am heart broken, but also want to find these people and make them pay!
