Lazarus Rising - Lowly Servant
4I was having some time with the Lord last night and reading through some scriptures about some things I've been struggling with - anxiety in particular.
Anxiety is caused by fear - it's your flight or fight response - and for the past two years or so, it's taken control of my life. I can't live like I used to, and I can't even enjoy the wonderful blessings God's given me. I can't go and do things with my family, and I feel trapped and helpless. Some days the anxiety is too much to handle, and other times it's partially subsided.
I'm in constant prayer and asking the Lord to help me overcome. My soul is weak, I'm tired and beat, and I feel defeated. I need the Lord's strength to get me through my day, and to help me be who He created me to be! And I fall short each and every day.
1 Peter 5:6-7 says, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because he cares for you.”
This verse is the main inspiration for the song (it took me about 20 minutes to write), and a reminder that we must submit to God, and let Him take control and lead us. We must humble ourselves under the Lord, and cast all of our fears, anxieties, and cares on Him. We have nothing to fear!
The other verse that helped inspire the song, is
2 Timothy 1:7, which says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
This song is very much the constant reminder that I need anytime my anxiety acts up.
