After the death of his wife Coral and the rest of the brood after the attack of a barracuda, clownfish Marino must take care of his only son, Nemo, handicapped by an atrophied fin. On his first day of school, Marino, worried, decides to follow him during a school trip. To prove his worth to his friends, Nemo decides to swim to the surface to touch the mysterious boat. That is when he is kidnapped by a diver.
Marin, who helplessly at the scene, then rushed in pursuit of the boat. Unfortunately, it is too fast, which does not prevent Marin from looking for her son. On his way he meets Dory, a fish-surgeon with "immediate memory disorders." She claims to have seen pass the boat that would have taken Nemo. But they do not have time to engage in pursuit of the latter as they are captured by a gang of sharks, who want to become friends of the fish by stopping to eat, Marin is quick to find the mask diver who kidnapped his son and he tries to decipher the address above.
Meanwhile, Nemo has landed in a fish tank, as well as other fish of all races. Among them, a Zancle, Gill, also comes from the ocean and dream to return. The same evening, he organized a meeting in the aquarium to explain his new plan to escape from the aquarium. In the ocean, Marin and Dory find themselves surrounded by jellyfish. Dory is stung and loses consciousness. Wanting to help her, Marin fainted in turn.
In the aquarium, Gill puts his plan into action. He asks Nemo has to block the aquarium filter system with a piece of gravel. Nemo manages to jam the wheel but not long enough and lacks being killed. Gill saves on time.
When Dory and Marin resumed their minds, they are on the shells of turtles adventurous, guided by a turtle Crush 150 years old, which lead very quickly near Sydney. All creatures living in the ocean soon learn the immense feats Marin made to find his son. The new comes up a pelican flying Nemo prevent his father the search. Surprised and pleased with this new, Nemo tries again to lock the wheels, this time successfully. The aquarium now at risk of clogging, the owner of the house should clean the aquarium as Gill in hand and putting meanwhile the fish in a bag on the windowsill. Swimming fast [unclear], Gill believes it can bring down the bag in the ocean.
Meanwhile, Marino and Dory manage to escape the belly of a whale through brilliant ideas Dory. The next day, a surprise awaits the fish in the aquarium: it is cleaned by a scanner. Worse, Nemo comes to Darla, niece of the diver, known for torturing fish. As she is about to kill Nemo, pelican appears with Marino and Dory in its beak. A battle ensues after which Nemo, Dory and Marin found the ocean but it is entangled in the net of a trawler.
To save her, Nemo decides to enter the net and encourage caught fish to swim to the bottom, which can create sufficient weight to the loose mesh, Marin who refuses at first, for fear of losing his son again, agreed to trust him and encourages other fish to swim to the bottom. Nemo plan works and all the fish, including Dory, are free.
Back in their anemone, everything has changed, Dory saw with sharks who themselves are now living in harmony with the fish (although they are still afraid), Nemo back to school and Marin has more confidence in his son.
