LEADER-BOARD - Masterclass - 061 - The Problem Solving Process
THEME: Business Solutions
LESSON: The Problem Solving Process
There are very few people in business that do not spend most of the day solving problems. One of the keys to taking steps forward is the ability to make a decision and stick to it, and then to take massive action that sees the process through to a positive conclusion.
Most problems are issues that we can not get around so we have to change the way that we think. The kind of thinking that discovers a problem is usually different from the kind of thinking that solves problems. It is a creative process.
There are however simple steps that we can follow to find answers to tricky situations.
Let's look at one system that can be followed:
1. Identify The Problem.
You need to know what is going on and why it is important in the overall picture
2. Gather Data.
We need to know what we know and what we need to know
3. Analyse The Data.
It is important to know what is the root cause of the problem that we have. This means to look beyond the present visible facts and to travel back to the source.
4. Generate Solutions.
We need to understand what our options are and what are the strengths and weaknesses of these choices. We need to be aware of risks and threats.
5. Select Solutions.
It is essential to come to a consensus about what needs to be done and decide who is responsible for making and accepting the decisions.
6. Plan Implementation.
It is time to choose who should do what and in which order.
7. Implement & Test.
Now, we should check and review each step and collect feedback on the successes and failures of our choices. It is time to refine the process to achieve an outcome of quality.
8. Continue to Improve.
No matter how well you do what you did yesterday there is always a way to improve in the light of a new day. Be always aware of small improvements and accept suggestions.
Life is very much a team sport so remember to understand that most problems can not be solved alone. You need a team of different players with different experiences and different skills.
Keep in mind that in every problem there is an opportunity.
Think about it.
