Join me as I unbox, speed build and review 30628 The Monster Book of Monsters, a 2020 LEGO Harry Potter set creating Eduardus Lima's sentient textbook in a fantastic 320 piece LEGO gift with purchase. LEGO's Monster Book of Monsters incorporates wheels which cause the cover of the book to move up and down when you push it exposing the book's monstrous fangs. Included in 30628 Monster Book of Monsters is an exclusive HP262 Draco Malfoy LEGO minifigure which I examine while reviewing this fantastic 2020 LEGO Harry Potter set.

30628 The Monster Book of Monsters from LEGO Harry Potter is a free gift with purchase. I got mine for spending over $75 on LEGO Harry Potter at Barnes and Noble. Acquiring this wonderful 2020 LEGO set in other countries is proving a little more challenging.

Designed by Senior LEGO Designer Justin Ramsden, the 320 piece set is a delightful recreation of The Monster Book of Monsters as seen in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. This beastly book has the same beady eyes and fangs but does use extensive stickering in place of printed LEGO elements. The mouth, with red lips and fangs is superbly recreated in LEGO and the book has moveable tentacles.

The way to safely open The Monster Book of Monsters is by stroking the spine and LEGO has recreated the book's spine nicely from LEGO elements. To activate the action feature, the spine acts as a place to grab the book. Rubber wheels mounted underneath attach to a cam which opens the book's mouth as you push it along providing a very satisfying action as the Monster Book of Monsters opens and snaps shut.

The HP262 LEGO Draco Malfoy minifigure is touted as an exclusive but is a little disappointing as there are no new elements. Draco is featured in a scene holding The Monster Book of Monsters but I think Neville Longbottom might have been a better choice of figure.

Overall, the LEGO 30628 Monster Book of Monsters is a fantastic set and a significant, desirable free gift. These re-sell on eBay for upwards of $40 and even at that price, I would be sorely tempted.
