I played this a lot on the C64 and later on the Amiga. Always prefered the simplistic c64 style with this game. No fancy graphics, just pure gameplay.
Paradroid '90 is a remake and not a simple port of the c64 version. The ships are entirely different, but the game mechanics are pretty much the same.
A similar game with isometric graphics was released on the Spectrum called 'Quazatron'
