Arise: A Simple Storyis an indie game, puzzle adventure and platform game developed by the independent Spanish studio Piccolo. It was released on December 3, 2019 for Windows , PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms . The player controls the soul of an old man who goes on a journey to the afterlife and along the way remembers all his periods of life. The game features a total of 10 different levels, symbolizing the different life stages of an old man, from childhood to old age. Each level also showcases different time manipulation mechanics. At some levels, this is a change in the seasons, from summer to winter, where you can change the water level, the amount of snow, change the location of the raft, and so on. There are levels where the change in time affects short periods of time, ie moving animals, falling stones that can be used as platforms for movement, the formation of webs, and so on.In some levels, there are hostile shadows that try to kill the hero, but which can be scared away by the light from the lightning, as well as fire, contact with which must be avoided. The old man may die if it falls from too high a distance, falls into water, or falls victim to shadow or fire. In this case, the game restarts on the last save point. ATArise also has a built-in local co-op mode where one player controls the old man and the other controls the time. At the same time, it is possible to instantly switch the mode between players [5] .
Each of the levels reflects a particular period in the life of an elder. For example, the first level is empty meadows and a reflection of the hero's lonely childhood, the second level - giant plants and insects - reflect the happiness of the friendship of the little hero and his new girlfriend. The third level - the forest, located in the center of the shift of tectonic plates and collapsing - reflects the anxiety from the separation of the already young hero and his girlfriend, after the elders of the tribe quarreled and were divided into two families. The fourth level, representing the forest during a thunderstorm, symbolizes fear, which is expressed in hostile shadows. Then the young hero secretly fled from his tribe in order to reunite with his beloved again.The fifth level symbolizes love and is a serene pond with luminous platform flowers. It reflects the happiness of the reunion of the hero and his lover when he was adopted into his girlfriend's tribe. The sixth level symbolizes the birth of a new life and is an abstract space filled with living matter and plant sprouts.
