Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is an indirect sequel to 2010's surprise hit, Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The Dark Descent was created by Frictional who, prior to Amnesia's release, was most known for their Penumbra series. Amnesia, in many ways, is a spiritual successor to Penumbra.
