After a protracted 7 year development cycle LA Noire was finally released in 2011, and the developers - Team Bondi, led by Brendan McNamara - dissolved shortly thereafter. LA Noire is a crime drama influenced by the film noir genre and set in 1947 Los Angeles. The game not only faithfully recreates 1947 LA, but also takes direct inspiration from many of the notable stories of criminal activity that emerged during this time period.
LA Noire's development cycle was a turbulent and controversial one, and the controversy persisted well after the game's release due, in part, to the fact that over 130 developers were left uncredited.
The most remarkable thing about LA Noire, however, is its pioneering use of facial capture technology developed specifically for this game. The creation of the MotionScan technology used in LA Noire is likely the single greatest contributor to the game's 50 million dollar budget.
