Let's Play Bloodborne Part 2 - First Boss Cleric Beast: Kill The Beast! (PS4)
18Let's Play Bloodborne Gameplay Part 1 includes our First Impressions, and review of Bloodborne after a short time with the game, as we go through Central Yharnam. In part 2 Lin tries to take on the first boss, Cleric Beast! Does she murder it real good, or get beat down?
This is all Lin & I recorded for now on Bloodborne! We just wanted to give you a quick taste of the game. We walkthrough our first hands on experience with Bloodborne for the Playstation 4! Lin and I were big fans of Dark Souls & Demon's Souls. We'll review our initial thoughts of our first look at Bloodborne, and play the first level in Yharnam.
The gameplay unfortunately doesn't support 60fps, so we're recording in 30fps in 720p. The graphics look really nice in Bloodborne. The enemies and locations look great so far. The first boss I ran into (The Cleric Beast), was really impressive. Large scale, intimidating, overall badass.
Bloodborne features action role-playing elements similar to those found in director Miyazaki's other games Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. Combat is fast paced and requires an offensive approach in order for players to combat dense hordes of enemies. The player character is agile and is able to perform sweeping dashes around enemies while locked on. The new risk versus reward style of gameplay is emphasized through Bloodborne 's health regain system, which allows the player to, within a small window of time, recover portions of lost health by striking back at the player's attacker.
One thing I find really neat is the fact that weapons seem to have some transformations. Melee weapons can transform into two alternate states; each state encourages a different approach to combat. The cleaver, for example, in its initial state can be used to quickly dispatch enemies in cramped areas, but when transformed into its secondary state it becomes an extended blade more suited for crowd control. At the very beginning I chose the threaded cane, which is badass. It can transform into a whip, as well as be used to cane the shit out of enemies. Lin chose the Hunter's Axe, which can be lengthened & shortened depending on if you are using it as a one handed or two handed weapon. The player can also wield a firearm in their left hand that can be used to stun enemies, which can then be followed up with a critical attack from the player's melee weapon.
Enemies seem smarter in general, and mobs are definitely dangerous if you run in without a plan. Not being able to use a shield is causing me a lot of deaths, but I do think that Bloodborne is going to a more fast paced, frantic and energetic combat system. It looks flashy, and it's very satisfying why still being damn challenging.
The game definitely feels like Demon's Souls/Dark Souls at heart, while being different enough to set it apart. There's lots of blood theming in place. Your currency, health, and weapon upgrade materials are measured in blood echoes, blood vials, and other blood related accessories.
