Let's Play D&D: The Temple of Elemental Evil • 48 • Off the beaten path
The party returns to the third floor to explore one last area and finds an ornery wizard named Falrinth. After dispatching him and his quasit, Windows 10 decides to tell me I need to install updates RIGHT NOW, but gets denied. (Take that, Microsoft.) Teeq finds a large cache of neat wizard stuff behind a secret door, including what she identifies as the Orb of Golden Death, an artifact of immense power. In the room adjacent to Falrinth's, the party finds Smigmal Redhand, an elf who's been enchanted by Falrinth and made to attack all Temple intruders. The party frees her and discovers a shortcut out of the Temple in some caves to the west. Taking a ladder found in those caves leads to the Temple tower, which is filled with brigands who were loyal to Lareth (remember him?) and are none too happy to see the people who crushed his face. The party uses its area of effect spells to great... effect, and puts them all down with relative ease. After that battle, the party is once again bogged down with vendor trash and must make another run to Nulb.
I must say I'm rather embarrassed about it taking me this long to realize I should have had the Rolls History window open from the beginning. It provides extremely valuable information about every action that occurs, and I could have been using it to discover why some things just weren't working very well. Oh well, now I know!
