It's like that one game with the triangle ship and the space rocks, except in beautiful next gen graphics! Dead Space: Like Asteroids But Prettier.

As a note, on my own run of the game on hard mode, I passed this part with over 50% shields intact, having a big TV definitely helps. The small recording screen makes it kinda hard to do precision aiming well.
