Well, this game was a VERY pleasant surprise. It exceeded all expectations in pretty much every area. It's a travesty that the entire series didn't make it stateside. I'll just give some quick scores:

Gameplay 9/10: One of the most important factors in deciding how good a game is. The combat system is great. Mechanically there is not much to complain about. My only nitpicks are the slow AI movement at the end of the turn, and the subpar item diversity on shops. I pretty much kept the same equipment on some of my characters the entire game. However, I did read that there are secret shops so maybe my complaint is dealt with there.

Story 7/10: Pretty standard story, not many surprises. I say this as someone playing the game 20+ years after it came out, so some of the premises are a little worn out. However, that doesn't mean they aren't well executed. The branching storylines will be interesting to check out. 1990's Score would be a 8.5/10

Characters 10/10: Good cast, but it seems like the main character lacks a little personality. The banter between Hein and Cherie is pretty good. I give this a 10, because with the branching storyline I assume that you get a lot of interaction with other characters. I bet you get some great dialogue when you join with Leon. The class/leveling system is very advanced for the time.

Music 7/10: Solid score.

Replay Value 50/10: Wow wow wow wow does this game have replay value or what? You can pick tons of different starting classes for your main character, and when you promote you have another two trees you can go down. You also have those options with the other characters.

Then, you have the different paths. Apparently there are the:

Light (What this run is)
Imperial
Chaos
Independent

So to truly 100% the game, you're looking at at least four runs. Awesome.

Overall 9.5/10: This game is definitely near the top of its genre.
