Let's Play: Eastward - Part 1 - Why is everyone in this town kind of a jerk?
This is part 1 of my let's play of Eastward.
In Eastward, you play as a duo John: the only guy who knows how to swing a frying pan, apparently; and Sam: a white-haired girl that apparently has magic and came from above ground. You live underground in what I think was an underground shopping mall/subway sorta thing, just trying to scrape by. Everyone in town seems to be at least 20% jerk, which I guess is because they have all been living underground.
I've had my eye on Eastward for a while. It's a game that wears its inspirations on the sleeve. There's are definite nods to Zelda and the Mother series in this game, and yet it is also completely it's own thing. It's combat is straight-forward but enjoyable, the maps are filled with little details, the character designs are whimsical, the music is great, and the world feels extremely lived-in. Whilst the start of the game does start slow, I did get to my first boss-fight in this video, and things feel like they're picking up. I'm really excited to see where this game goes.
Oh, and there's an entire sub-game in it called Earth Born which is just a whole other thing.
