Let's Play EDuke32 - Red Series (Part 1)
6To make up for ditching Redneck Rampage, here's Red 1 and Red 2 by Merlijn van Oostrum. Most people "in the community" know about these, but are they any good?
Well, it's time to find out, I certainly remember them being OK.
Red 1 hasn't aged very well compared to Red 2, the main criticism is overscaling. Everyone does that early on and it's better to overscale than underscale, Merlijn was only 16 when he made the map anyway and it still plays well enough.
Red 2 was released almost 5 months later, it shows vast improvements over the first map, even above average in some respects (for 2001) and has aged rather well. It's fun to play through, puzzles aren't too hard (except that big switch puzzle can be annoying) and combat and item placement were well though out.

I'm contemplating playing Zykov Eddy's A.Dream maps later into this month and then maybe, just maybe, we'll play something from the early days of Duke mapping.
