Oh yes, Everquest, one of the first BIG MMORPGs. One of the pioneers.
It came out in '99. As my dear viewers told me, because I did not have the slightest idea about the game, it was titled project 99 at the beginning.
I really like these small details about a project, a game, and basically everything. So this game is 25+ years old and I haven't played it before. Yesterday one of my favorite MMO YouTubers, Josh Stife Hayes published a video about MMO content creation and MMOs in general. Since I am a huge MMO fan since 2003, it made me think about the whole genre. Why are we playing MMORPGs? What is that we are looking for in an MMO when we pick one out of the many? I started my journey with SW Galaxies, I still remember the first time playing it. And of course, I played the 3 letter MMO we won't mention for a very long time. Thanks to that I haven't got the time, chance, money, and similar things, to try out other older but well-known MMORPGs.
Until today! It turned out that Everquest is still running, and still getting updates, content patches, and everything nice!
I have to say the game surprised me in a very good way. Of course, it is an archaic old MMO, where you have to click everything and you have to navigate through a lot of windows, tutorials, and whatnot. But what surprised me more is the Twitch community behind Everquest. Without prior knowledge, I was clicking around like a noob. They helped me pick a race and a class, help me with spell learning, and all the good things.

The character creation and the class selection are pretty rad!
16(!) races, 16(!) classes. Of course, a lot of them are race-specific, but this is an MMORPG after all! You can get some pretty awesome combinations!
Okay, the graphics are old, but who cares?! The gameplay is what we are after! I summoned my trusty d8, inherited from my father, and randomized the possibilities, so I ended up with an Iksar Necromancer!
It turned out that they pimped the character graphics a few years ago, so the characters are looking much better!
I completed the tutorial quests and get to know the game a little bit better. I have to say I really like the snarky humor they put into the dialogs and the general feel of the game!
As far as I know, the game is pretty strong on the high end. So me being on the low end will be a bit difficult, but they instructed me that I can hire mercenaries at some point to help me on my journey!
Honesty I almost had the seem feeling when I started playing SW Galaxies back in 2003. The only thing I miss is my old CRT monitor! Haha, not really!
And also I rebranded my channel because I think the musical part is going to be less frequent and I am going to focus on gaming much more! I don't say that I won't upload any guitar videos based on RPGs or covers or anything else, but I feel this is the best solution right now! I rebranded my Twitch as well!
