2Shogo Mobile Armor Division (昇剛) was one of my childhood gems and one of the first PC games I've ever played as a kid in 1999, and have some fond memories of.
Just some info: I prefer writing it "Shougou" the first kanji is 昇 "Shou" (Rise up) and can also be read "Noboru" (To climb). The second kanji is 剛 "gou" and can mean "strong, hard, manly". Looks like we've got a case of a "manly rising up" if you catch my drift.
Anyways, the first thing I did when I got internet in 2004 was look up the intro song and I must've played it on repeat for the entirety of the rest of that year.
The song is called "ねがい"(Negai)(Wish) by Takashima Yohei (高嶋洋平) and Nemoto Miho (根本美緒) (Not the weather forecasting lady I'm sure, but someone else I could find exactly zero info on, and has no other known recorded records! If someone on the dev team could let me know it'd be cool)
I know the translation of this song seems largely different from what you can find out there on le Google, but I disagree with about 4 different translations I've found so far. That's why I've decided upon creating my own version.
I went with a pretty 1-1 translation from Japanese to English on this song, which is pretty hard because honestly it has some "questionable" things to translate. Many things can be interpreted in many ways, but I went with what I thought was correct. I know it reads weird, and it's not exactly "localized" but I chose to preserve the --what I believe-- meaning, to the lyrics.
Before you attack me in a mindblowing blind surge of rage, know that I'm not 100% content with this translation. Japanese isn't so easy where without any input from the speaker or writer you would know exactly what they're trying to convey through these lyrics.
"Kagayakasete, hikarasete" could be translated as "Make me sparkle, make me shine" instead of what I opted with (Make it sparkle, make it shine bright), as a small example. There are many more occasions like this during the entire song. One other example I feel I need to include here is right after the previous verse "Itsumo miteitai kara" which could technically also be translated to "I'll always want to see this" that's f*cked up. Anyways, there's even a ton more stuff like this during the rest of the song so let's stop it here.
