I just got myself a new PC (again...), cost about £900 - for an i7 processor with 4 cores and Windows 7, not 8, I'd say it was well worth it! Just two problems with it:
1. No great graphics card - just Intel HD Graphics, but I'm planning to change that.
2. No wireless internet, but my workaround for this is to plug in a USB wireless network adapter.

This is only for the UK, there are other good ones on hp.com for in the US.
The £900 included the 1920x1080 monitor I bought, which was about £200, I could have gotten a 2560x1600 one for £900, but I didn't need that.
