In Wesnoth, the player attempts to build a powerful army by controlling villages and defeating enemies for experience. White based Wesnoth loosely on the Sega Genesis games Master of Monsters and Warsong.

The elves remain apart from men and only the occasional bandit troubled the peace. Reports from Sir Loris, commander of the South Guard, suddenly stopped. King Haldric sent Deoran, a young, undistinguished knight, to find out why Loris has stopped sending reports.
