**EPISODE NOTES**

I've actually played for 8 hours already, so much of this video is me trying to remember how to play. Also I'm a ways into the game.

I probably won't get to making a lets play of the first 8 hours, though if I did record it, it would go by pretty fast because a lot of the playtime of this game is being not sure what to do (in this sense it operates like a point and click adventure.)

To get you up to speed...

- Main game resources: Time, Health and Money.
HEALTH: The hearts. Run out and you walk really slow I think. Restore by eating. Gain higher health over the course of the game.
MONEY: Can buy stuff, get it from doing some quests. MOstly to pay off mayor (see below.)
TIME: The clock in top left. At first you barely have any time. Run out and it's game over - you drop most of your items and wake up the next day. As you grant wishes (see below), you can stay up later (heh heh.)

- I'm Pokkle, and I overslept for my coming of age ceremony. So I have to pay a TON of money for it. It's also sort of obvious that the mayor is probably extorting you heh.
- There are certain money goals to reach, reaching them unlocks new things in the island. Mayor claimst he ceremony is the only way to become an adult.
- Eventually you meet a weird old man, help him out, and go on a Shrooms trip. Turns out you can also become an adult by granting wishes!
- To get wishes, you sacrifice items at an altar to get an Empty Wish.
- When you talk to someone and they have a problem, you can capture their wish in the empty wish.
- I have granted a few wishes; granting enough gives you points to 'level up', allowing you to stay awake longer.
- E.g. "Someone needs a waitress", "I need a fish', etc.
- You can buy disposable cameras to get photos of people to show to other people to gain information on them. You can also do this with in-progress wishes. This is similar to the business-card (i think) mechanic from moon

**EPISODE SUMMARY**

- I remember how to play the game!
- I struggle to read Japanese!
- Learn about something related to a volcano disaster and not having enough money from the Mayor. Meet the doctor and his robot.
- Learn about someone's wish to catch a fish.

**ON GIFTPIA**

IT'S GIFTPIA!!

Giftpia's an interesting game by Kenichi Nishi & co. It has some obvious Love-de-lic tendencies (Stamina systems around an oddball quest system, denser smaller game worlds, okayish humanist themes about becoming an adult and life lessons, strange humor, possibly ageist and sexist gender representation...).

This is my (Attempted...) let's play of the game. It's in Japanese and the Japanese is pretty colloquial so it's hard at times.

"Giftpia (ギフトピア Gifutopia?) is a video game that was developed by skip Ltd. for the GameCube. It was released in Japan on April 25, 2003. Despite that its last showing at Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) was in English, Nintendo cancelled the North American localization of GiFTPiA. In English, the game would most likely be better understood as called "Giftopia" to represent the two words, gift and utopia.[2]"
