Haven is a departure from the Game Bakers’ previous renowned game, Furi. While they share a similar theme of fighting for freedom, the context and game feel is entirely different. Haven allows players a look into the everyday life of a mature, loving relationship of Yu and Kay and while inviting players to relax, laugh, and connect to the characters. While Haven is not without fighting, thrills, and unexpected surprises, it does take the players on a journey often not explored in games: one of a true adult relationship. In Haven, players level up the more time the couple spends together, and they even must fight together, placing emphasis on the importance of the relationship.. The Game Bakers is an independent video game studio founded by Emeric Thoa and Audrey Leprince. To sum it up they often say that they make games like they cook food: with a lot of love. They want to create that experience that players remember, that they will have fantasies about long after the game is finished, and that makes them feel alive and energized. The studio is based in Montpellier in France but they work with a team of collaborators around the world. Their upcoming game is their cosy RPG HAVEN due for 2020. They previously released their frenzied boss battle only game FURI on all platforms, and before that their tactical RPG underwater series SQUIDS ODYSSEY and mobile brawler COMBO CREW.
I could probably write a dissertation on everything Haven does right, but the truth is, Haven is something you must feel. Your relationship with Haven will change over time, the nuances left on you only realized long after the controller has been put away. Haven is the game every game developer wishes they could make and every gamer wishes they could play for the first time every time. It cannot be understated how beautiful Haven is in every sense of the word. Please don’t just play Haven — feel Haven.
