Luke sends us to Echo Base on Hoth, with the excuse that the Disciples of Ragnos might be there to steal the planet's Force energy.
Luke's ulterior motive for sending us there was blatantly obvious. Luke was hoping we would go there, get rid of any Imperial Forces as well as any Disciples of Ragnos, and then die in the process.
Luke hid a stash of homemade child pornography with himself and all of the Padawans in Echo Base. He thought no one would be looking there since Echo Base was destroyed in Episode V.
