This is out of step with my intended bi-Friday upload schedule, but I haven't uploaded in a while, so I wanted to post something. Don't expect irregular Sunday uploads to become a regular thing. Also, I really was gonna mash two sessions together and post a longer video, but Windows and Lightworks both crashed multiple times while editing, and, eventually, I was just like, screw it. Anyway, on to my Pillars rambling.

I really do have a lot to say about Aloth. Unfortunately I keep taking month+ long breaks in recording and consequently keep forgetting how to do commentary. He and Iselmyr make up the most empathetic, respectful depiction of OSDD I've ever seen, and I've seen a few. Anders who?

I also do wanna touch on his interactions with Bellasage a little more. Again, they harken to real-world abuses. It may not be as common as it was, but for those deemed unworthy of autonomy by the system itself, the developmentally disabled or those with "scary" mental illnesses such as schizophrenia or dissociative disorders, there's little respect for things like privacy and humanity. This is also evident in how Bellasage rarely addresses Aloth, instead turning to Thorn, as if, because he wasn't the one coming to her for help with his mental health, he's worthy of more respect than Aloth.

And the cage! We know Brackenbury was established early on during Eir Glanfath's colonization, so I can't help but think that that cage did, at one time, hold awakened Glanfathans or ciphers. I think there's lore that establishes the colonists "studied" orlan ciphers, but I could be misremembering. In any case, Bellasage's ability to joke about this exemplifies her comfort with the abuses that have gone on within her field, and the privilege she wields by being able to joke about these things, knowing she'll likely never face them herself.

Yeah, this is just as messy as my commentary, but I love this game and writing so much, I don't really care. I'm just happy for a place to rant. And before anyone comments about how I'm overanalyzing a game, sorry I respect the energy and effort that goes into writing these scripts more than you do.
