Rise of the Tomb Raider is that dream sequel of a game that was doing everything right but just needed a bit more of something.

As I played through it for the first time, I felt immersed like never before. The levels came alive, the world felt lived in and everything was so detailed and methodically put in, that each and every aspect of it was a story being told without words.

Lara shone brighter in a world that kept darkening, becoming weirder and the blur the reality with it's interesting set pieces. It never felt too out there, it felt plausible, like an adventure book of old. And Lara is right there with you, questioning together with you, as you both traverse impossible terrain with little more than bare survival tools and just sheer grit. You can almost feel her teeth cleanse as she dance gracefully through each death trap.

Rise of the Tomb Raider offers little in mods, other than some model changes, which I do not feel enhanced the experience. There are some reshades, but none that I felt enhanced the artistic vision that the developers have carefully crafted.

Nexxus, the developers of the port to PC, did an amazing job, making this game perform better than the previous release, as well as add state of the art graphics, at a time where last gen was still sputtering along. They were also patching the game 5 years after release, adding DLSS.

Note, however, that the DLSS implementation is flawed, as it runs full-screen post-processing effects before DLSS. This causes visual quality issues especially around the full-screen effects, such as depth of field and film grain, both of which I have turned off for this video.

Everything else is turned all the way up to 11.

I have 100%ed this game when it was released, one of the rare fews I have done it with, as I was simply just not ready to say goodbye to it, when it finished. I will skip some of the optional stuff unless it flows well into the game.
