Let's Play Rogue Legacy - Episode 3 - Disorienting
What is Rogue Legacy? Rogue Legacy is a new entry into the burgeoning world of roguelites -- an indie platformer with roguelike elements from developer Cellar Door Games. Set in a somewhat cartoonish medieval setting, players explore a
procedurally generated dungeon which spans into four unique environments.
While not a roguelike in the strictest sense of the definition, Rogue Legacy fits into an ever-expanding genre of games with certain elements of the roguelike experience. Namely, Rogue Legacy features a heavy emphasis on procedural
generation and randomness, which affects aspects of gameplay from the generation of the dungeon map to the characteristics of the player's character themselves -- but more on that below!

Rogue Legacy comes from developer Cellar Door Games, and has been aptly compared to games such as Spelunky and The Binding of Isaac. Rogue Legacy is Cellar Door Games' biggest project up to its creation. While featuring prominently
among fans of roguelikes and roguelites, the game strays from the strict definition in that instead of a traditional permadeath experience, there is an aspect of permanent progression between characters. When a player character dies,
the mantle is taken by one of three "heirs," a descendant whose traits, spells, and class type are randomly generated. This allows for progression between characters while still maintaining a fresh experience through randomly "rerolled"
character attributes.
Rogue Legacy features randomly rolled Classes, Traits, and Spells.
Classes: These character classes range from the magic-focused Mage (Archmage when Advanced) to the battle-heavy Barbarian (Barbarian King/Queen when Advanced). Classes have an affect on the abilities, skills and even appearance of a
player character, and many many more classes are unlocked as you progress through the game!
Traits: These attributes can have a positive effect (ADHD makes the character move 30% faster), a negative effect (Near-Sightedness makes everything a certain distance away look blurry on screen), or merely an aesthetic effect
(Nostalgic gives the game a sepia-toned look) on gameplay. There are many traits which makes for nigh-countless unique character builds!
Spells: These unique spells can be key to your success in Rogue Legacy! Spells range from thrown items such as daggers or chakrams to unique magic abilities such as the ability to stop time or set a teleport location to a specific room.
Absolutely something to keep in mind when choosing a character!

Wikipedia describes the premise of the game as follows:
"Rogue Legacy"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_Legacy
"The goal of Rogue Legacy is to explore a randomly generated dungeon, defeat four bosses in each of the four unique environments of the dungeon, and then defeat the final boss. Characters have the default ability to jump and slash with
their sword, along with secondary abilities, such as magic attacks, which use mana. Whenever a character dies as a result of losing all of their Hit Points (HP), control will transfer over to one of three randomly generated heirs, each
with their own unique characteristics and abilities.[6] Such genetic peculiarities include color-blindness (in which the game is presented in black and white), ADHD (in which the player moves faster) and dwarfism (in which the character
is short and can fit into small gaps)."
