Sid Meier's Colonization (1994) was in some ways a spin-off of Sid Meier's Civilization. You're given a handful of pioneers and soldiers on a boat in the mid-Atlantic in 1492, and your task is to explore, settle and conquer the New World for your sovereign... and then fight for your independence.

A remake was done on the Civ4 engine in 2008, but while the graphics update is nice, the gameplay was (in my opinion) worsened.

Fortunately, this classic title has been brought back to life and to modern platforms. You can buy it at places like Good Old Games (www.gog.com) or on Steam (which is the version I'm playing here).

In this playthrough, we're going for a large colony, starting as the English with their bonus to immigration.
