Well, it’s been a long and fun ride, but this will be my last video in this series.

This was my first attempt at a Let’s Play series with audio commentary on Youtube ‘ever’, and it’s been a fun learning experience! I have a new found respect for the content creators who have managed to build a large enough following, to do this sort of thing for a living. Even without any proper editing or production, this series felt like quite a bit of work.

In this final Episode, we begin with a recap of the Guide and Playthrough. This mimics the checklist found in Chapter 9.3 of the Guide. We also forget where on Earth we put the Deathknight set (turns out that I put it in a Barrel, next to the stairs. Doh!).

As a final hurrah, we then break the game (quite literally; the game crashed 3 times!), by fiddling around with the infamous ‘Fortify Restoration Feedback Loop’. This crafting loop can be used to create crafted items of exponentially increasing value and magnitude, and is the reason behind the absurd stats that the ‘Chim’ set obtains in the Guide.

To save time, we simply demonstrate the capabilities of this loop, by crafting a simple Bow, and a ring that fortifies Archery. See the final Dragon fight for the completely expected results.

The Let's Play is intended to support a Build + Strategy Guide that I wrote on Steam.

To end, here’s an author’s note of sorts:

This will be my final video in this Let’s Play series, and probably the final video that I make on Skyrim. Between the 25,000+ word Steam guide and then this, I think I’m all Skyrim’d out. Perhaps in the future I might make some Let’s Plays of other old games that I spent way too much time on as a pimpled teenager (Morrowind could be fun!), but that’s for another time.

I never plan on trying to make money as a ‘Youtuber’; I’m happy with simply walking through my gaming nostalgia & thought processes, for free, and for educational purposes only. So I guess in an effort to educate you guys on a different topic: Here’s why.

It’s an increasingly uphill struggle for ordinary people trying to make money on Youtube. Not to put a dampener on those watching this and perhaps wishing to get into ‘the Youtube market’, but: the very structure of monetisation on the internet, which is effectively what drives the algorithms that Youtubers spend lifetimes trying to understand, makes a long-term ‘Youtube Middle Class’ virtually impossible.

By its’ own nature, Youtube views and wealth will progressively become more and more skewed toward the ‘few winners’ at the top end, and leave a ‘vast sea of losers’ at the bottom end. Being the squillionth person to do Let’s Plays of old games that are already all over Youtube, is extremely unlikely to make me one of the ‘few winners’.

For more information (time for a plug of similar talks by the same guy):

Have a listen to Jaron Lanier: the man credited with inventing Virtual Reality, and someone who's observed the rise of the internet first hand. His commentary on how things such as online wealth have become structured, and the way wealth creation and distribtuion is trending into the future, is something that I personally think that EVERYBODY on Youtube, creator or consumer, should take time to listen to, read, and/or watch.

Take note of ‘Link Placement’ & the ‘Advertising model’. Then consider the fact that Google (and by proxy Youtube, given that it's owned by Google) relies almost SOLELY on these two things for their profits. As a result of the 'Maxwell's Demon' that is Youtube's algorithms (using information gathered 'freely' from consumers of content), there's an increasing cut off being those who 'win' and those who 'lose', with the proportion of 'losers' growing by the day.

The backdoor 'wealth avenue' now for Youtubers I guess is Patreon. Profitable Patreons require a ‘very’ dedicated long-term fanbase, as well as extra content to satisfy different levels of Patrons. Which means that to keep it up, creators have to pump out consistent content, for a very long time. Again, I would rather this be a fun and educational experience that I do not have to plug away at consistently, so I'm fine with not having a Patreon.

Finally, for the dedicated few that still go to the effort to buy books, I highly recommended buying, or 'finding', this book: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who_Owns_the_Future%3F

If you do read books: Please keep reading. There really is no substitute for it, as much as sites like Youtube have tried to indirectly convince people otherwise.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

And that's it! Hope you guys have learnt something from the whole series.

Enjoy!
