Space rangers 2 is a video game that encompasses every genre except dressup. It's a wild war sim, it's an RPG. Its A VISUAL NOVEL, it's everything.

Space rangers 2 was released in 2004 by 1C, as a followup to their previous game, space rangers. Space rangers 2 revolves around a war between 4 AI factions. 3 of them are powerful self-replicating robots, the 4th is the rational life-forms coalition (sort of a federation of planets, but more gutsy).
I have heard many games that say the AI does its own stuff and follows its own goals in the background without player participation. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 (which doesn't) or Elder Scrolls IV (Which also doesn't). In space rangers 2, the AI fights the war in the background between the four factions whether or not the player participates.
On easy mode, the organic lifeforms will easy win the war without player intervention. As the difficulty increases, so to does the severeity of the situation. At harder difficulties, it is practically impossible to win without massive player intervention for the organic faction to win the war. However, the AI manages its own resources and fights the war regardless of player actions.
This is probably my favorite video game, or at least tied with my second favorite. I think it is one of the greatest works of art yet produced and continues to intrigue and excite me even now, almost 20 years later.
