Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, known as Super Mario Bros. 2 in Japan, also known as Super Mario Bros.: For Super Players in Super Mario Bros. Deluxe for the Gameboy Color, is a direct sequel to Super Mario Bros. The game was released in 1986 for the Japan-only Famicon Disk System. It uses some slight alterations from Super Mario Bros.' game engine with some new features, altered graphics, new enemy behavior and significantly different and challenging levels. Nintendo of America deemed this game too difficult and too much like Super Mario Bros. to be sold in Western countries. So in North America, we got the adaptation of Yume Kojo: Doki Doki Panic as our version of Super Mario Bros. 2, which was later released in Japan under the title Super Mario USA. The first time The Lost Levels got released outside of Japan was its remake in Super Mario All-Stars in 1993 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and then later in Super Mario Bros. Deluxe.
