After the events of Thief II: The Metal Age, master thief Garrett continues to ply his trade in the enigmatic locale known only as "The City". After dealing with the extremist fringes of the city's two rival factions, the Pagans and the Hammerites in his past exploits, Garrett is now drawn into the shadowy and secretive fraternity of the "Keepers". Garrett must once again make uneasy alliances with past enemies in order to uncover the myriad of mysteries and surrounding keeper prophecies to prevent the coming Dark Age.
This amazing stealth game almost made it across the finish line as my favorite Thief game, however Thief II barely pulled ahead in s photo finish. I love the aesthetics and lighting of the game, the fact that most of Looking Glass Studios laid off vets were on the development team, resulting in a continuation of theme, quality, lore, sound design and gameplay from Thief II to Thief III. Sporting a in depth dynamic lighting system, robust sound propagation, open world gameplay in "The City", a dynamic faction system and some of the best levels in the entirety of the thief series, this final installment in the Thief trilogy finalizes a nuanced and subtle arc for Garrett and continues the unique themes and lore of the previous games. Unfairly lambasted at release this has lived on to be one of my favorite games of all time and hopefully has been more fairly treated by history.
