Game Description:

Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE (Japanese: 幻影異聞録シャープエフイー Hepburn: Gen'ei Ibun Roku Shāpu Efu Ī?, lit. "Illusory Revelations ♯FE") is a crossover role-playing video game developed by Atlus and published by Nintendo for the Wii U home console. The game is based on the two companies' respective Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem series. The game was released in Japan in December 2015, and internationally in June 2016. The gameplay uses a turn-based battle system in which the characters merge with beings known as Mirages to fight enemies, employing a variety of attacks and abilities, including creating combined attacks with multiple characters.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE is set in modern-day Tokyo, with real-life locations such as Shibuya and Harajuku being featured. In the game, Tokyo has become beset by attacks from an alternate dimension called the Idolosphere, with beings known as Mirages harvesting an energy called Performa from humans. The story focuses on a group of young people who become allied with friendly Mirages by chance, and are recruited by Fortuna Entertainment: while outwardly a talent agency, Fortuna is dedicated to preventing invasions from the Idolosphere.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE was first proposed by Nintendo producer Kaori Ando, who envisioned a crossover between the Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei series. Although initially reluctant due to their workload, Atlus agreed to the collaboration, and much of the early work went into deciding what genre of game it was going to be, and how best to incorporate both series while creating an original game. The production period lasted five years. A notable feature was musical numbers produced by Japanese entertainment company Avex Group. The game was announced two months after full development began. Due to its Japanese setting and aesthetic, its Western release retains the Japanese voice track with subtitles rather than an English dub.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE is a role-playing video game (RPG), and a crossover between the Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem series. Set in modern-day Tokyo like many Shin Megami Tensei titles, the game follows the members of a talent agency during their conflicts with hostile beings from another world called Mirages. To help them, the main cast are allied with friendly Mirages inspired by characters from multiple Fire Emblem games. Navigation is carried out from a third-person perspective, while districts in Tokyo are accessed via a world map and fast travel system. When navigating districts, main character Itsuki can freely roam round the available environment and interact with various non-playable characters (NPCs) to trigger dialogue: in some instances, Itsuki has access to multiple dialogue options. An in-game social app accessed using the Wii U GamePad also opens up further character interaction outside battle and story events. The game features three types of quest: main quests that advance the story, side stories that delve deeper into the main cast and can unlock new passive and active abilities that can be used in battle, and standard side quests for NPCs found in Tokyo.

Similar to later Persona games, the party's activities alternate between events in the real world and exploration through dungeons in an alternate dimension, each designed around a specific theme. Unlocked by progressing through the story, the party navigates through multiple floors, activating switches and devices to carry them further forward while avoiding traps and encountering or avoiding enemies represented by sprites on the field: the dungeon map is displayed on the GamePad. Once cleared, dungeons can be replayed at any time. Vending machines scattered around Tokyo sell drinks that restore health points (HP) and energy points (EP), and such items can also be bought in shops within each district. Friendly NPC mirages also act as merchants within dungeons. Unlike many Wii U titles, the game is not compatible with Off TV Play.
